RESIDENTIAL REHABILITATION FOR WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBILITY
The Center for Universal Design which is part of the College of Design at North Carolina State University (NCSU), Raleigh, NC, promotes the concept of Universal Design in all design, construction, and manufacturing disciplines through research, design assistance, and training.
The intent of Universal Design is to simplify life for everyone by making products, communications, and the built environment more usable by as many people as possible at little or no extra cost. Universal Design benefits people of all ages and abilities. In the context of Aging at Home, Universal Design strives to make day-to-day living and home tasks possible and safer for everyone, allowing a person to remain independent for as long as possible.
The Center has produced an excellent brochure dealing with Home or Apartment Rehabilitation to wheelchair accessibility in particular. Click here to link to Residential Rehabilitation Remodeling and Universal Design
